KENDALL GLADEN, Mezzo
Soprano
KENDALL GLADEN, a second-year Adler
Fellow, made her San Francisco Opera debut this season as Giovanna (Rigoletto)
and performed as Mercédès (Carmen) and a Singer in (Manon Lescaut). The
mezzo-soprano participated in the 2005 Merola Opera Program where she
performed the role of Baba the Turk in The Rake’s Progress. Gladen has
been seen as Lily (Porgy and Bess) at Washington National Opera, Mamma
Lucia (Cavalleria Rusticana) at Sarasota Opera, and Flora (La Traviata)
with Opera North. As a young artist with the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis,
she performed the roles of the Abbess (Suor Angelica) and Albine (Thaïs).
Additional roles include the title role of Carmen, Cherubino (The Marriage
of Figaro), Madame de Croissy (Dialogues of the Carmelites), Madame Flora
(The Medium), Nancy (Albert Herring), and Adalgisa (Norma). She was a
regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and
received an Encouragement Award from the Sullivan Foundation, The Richard
Gaddes Award from Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and a Career Achievement
Award from the Monsanto Corporation. Gladen recently made her debut with
the Santa Rosa Symphony in Shostakovich’s From Yiddish Folk Poetry. Next
year she sings Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the San Francisco
Symphony, and makes her debut in the title role of Carmen with the UC
Davis Symphony.
NOAH STEWART, Tenor, a first-year Adler Fellow, tenor Noah Stewart was a participant in the
2006 Merola Opera Program where he was seen as The Wizard in Conrad Susa's Transformations,
a role he reprised this fall making his Wexford Festival Opera debut. A graduate of The
Juilliard School, Mr. Stewart's recent debuts also include The Mozart Requiem and The
Magnificat of C.P.E. Bach at Carnegie Hall with The Saint Cecilia Chorus and Orchestra and
concerts at both The Kennedy Center honoring soprano Jessye Norman and The New York
Historical Society.
Previous performances include Don Jose in Carmen at The Mondavi Center,
Broadway Salutes Gala with The Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra, Guest Concert Artist
with The Jupiter Players', Count Vaudemont in Tchaikovsky's Iolanta with Bel
Cantanti, Concerts in Cologne and Stuttgart, Germany with The Schuyler Foundation for Career Bridges, Nemorino in The Elixir of Love with the Martina Arroyo Foundation, Ferrando in Cosi fan
tutte and Count Vaudemont in Iolanta at The Academy of Vocal Arts and Idamante in Mozart's
Idomeneo with The Vertical Players' Repertory.
Concert performances include Micheal Tippet's
A Child of Our Time with The Stanford Chorus and Orchestra, Haydn's Creation with The
Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, The role of Jesus in Beethoven's rarely performed oratorio The Mount of Olives with The Chorus and Orchestra of First Baptist Church and Rossini's Stabat
Mater with The Sequence Ensemble.
His awards include The Marian Anderson Encouragement
Award, Second Place Winner of The Leontyne Price Competition, Gold Medalist of The Five
Towns Vocal Music Competition, The Palm Beach Opera Competition, First Place Winner of The
Florida Grand Opera Competition, The Outstanding Vocal Potential Award given by The Kurt
Weill Competition, The Opera Index Award Grant, The George London Encouragement Award and
The Licia-Albanese Puccini Foundation Study Grant.

.RHOSLYN JONES, SOPRANO
Second-year Adler Fellow RHOSLYN JONES made her San Francisco Opera debut as Frasquita in Carmen. A native of Aldergrove, British Columbia, Jones participated in the 2004 and 2005 seasons of the Merola Opera Program where she was heard as Norina (Don Pasquale) and in scenes from Jenůfa in concert at Yerba Buena Gardens.
While at the Curtis Institute of Music, the soprano performed Morgana (Alcina) and Despina (Così fan tutte). At the University of British Columbia she performed the title roles of Manon, The Merry Widow, and The Bartered Bride. Jones was most recently heard as Zerlina (Don Giovanni) with Napa Valley’s Lincoln Theater and as Anne Trulove (The Rake’s Progress) with West Bay Opera. Concert appearances include Mozart’s Requiem with Vancouver Island Symphony and Handel’s Messiah with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
She was a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and won first prize in the 2004 CBC Debut Competition. Jones will appear in the title role of Arizona Opera’s 2007 production of Susannah.

Katharine Tier, mezzo-soprano
First-year Adler Fellow, Katharine Tier, was born in Australia and graduated with a Bachelor of Music from the Sydney Conservatorium and was enrolled in their Diploma of Opera program. She was a participant in the 2006 Merola Opera Program where she performed excerpts from Donizetti’s La Favorite at Yerba Buena Gardens. Other roles include Amaranta in Haydn’s La Fedelta Premiata with the Sydney Conservatorium Opera School and Nicklausse/The Muse/The Voice of Antonia’s Mother in The Tales of Hoffman with Sydney Festival. Concert performances include La Rondine and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Sydney Symphony, excerpts from St. Matthew Passion with Western Australia Symphony and Israel and Egypt and Mozart Requiem with Macquarie University Singers. She makes her Melbourne Symphony Debut in December 2006 singing L’enfant et les Sortileges. She has given recitals for the National Lieder Society and the Joan Sutherland Society, and her first recording is a new oratorio, Hallel for our Times by Shelley Olsen. Her awards include the prestigious Marianne Mathy Scholarship at the 2002 Australian Singing Competition, the 2004 Barilla Opera Award for study at the Rome Opera Company, and the 2006 Vocal Workshop Award from the Neue Stimmen (New Voices) international singing competition in Germany. Other awards include the Encouragement Award in the McDonald’s Operatic Aria Competition, the Operatic Voice Award in the McDonalds Performing Arts Challenge and the Mezzo-soprano Award in the 2005 Sydney Opera Awards, the Joan Sutherland Society of Sydney Scholarship.

JI YOUNG YANG, Soprano
Soprano Ji Young Yang, a native of Korea, is a first-year Adler Fellow and was a participant in the 2006 Merola Opera Program where she performed Ilia in excerpts from Idomeneo at Yerba Buena Gardens. Recent performances include Beth in Mark Adamo’s Little Women, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi and Despina in Cosi fan tutte all with the Opera Theater of New England Conservatory. Other performances include Sandrina in La Finta Giardiniera at Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute, Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito conducted by Julius Rudel at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York, Héro in Béatrice et Bénédict, Peaseblossom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Livia in Caldara’s Il Giuoco del Quadriglio and Mademoiselle Silberklang in scenes from The Impresario at Manhattan School of Music. Concert performances include soprano soloist for Brahm’s Requiem with New England Conservatory Choir and Orchestra. The soprano began her formal studies at Seoul National University and has since studied at Manhattan School of Music and New England Conservatory of Music and has also been a participant at the Salzburg Summer Festival and Songfest summer program. In 2006 she was a New England Regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and was awarded The Frank and Carmela Pandolfi Award in Connecticut Opera Guild’s Annual Scholarship Competition.

LARA BOLTON,
Pianist, an Ohio native, is a freelance coach and accompanist. Most recently
Ms. Bolton has been engaged at San Francisco Opera, Opera Colorado, and Opera Santa Barbara. She has also worked at the San Diego Opera as Music Director of the San Diego Opera
Ensemble. Ms. Bolton was a coach and pianist in the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program at
the Washington National Opera. She has also participated in the Merola Opera Program, the
Music Academy of the West, and was on music staff at the Brevard Music Festival and
Interlochen Arts Camp, where she received her high school diploma. Ms. Bolton holds a
Master of Music in Collaborative Piano from the University of Maryland and received a
Bachelor’s degree in Music Theory from the University of Michigan
